Setbacks and obstacles are a part of the weight loss process just as much as healthy eating and exercise, which is why it’s so important to find ways to allow your setbacks to propel you forward for a comeback each and every time. Working to stay on track is not always easy but it is doable as long as stay focused on the goal and learn how to bounce back quicker each time you find yourself getting off track. Here are some ways to help you find your way back when the waters become a little murky.
How To Get Back On Track When You’ve Fallen Off The Weight Loss Wagon
Focus On Stabilizing The Situation
You don’t have to throw it all away. Just because you had a bad moment, meal, workout or day does not mean you have to continue the bad streak. The key in these situations is to get yourself right back in the saddle with the next meal, workout or the very next day. Don’t allow one slip up to be the green light to continue heading down the wrong path.
Find Someone To Hold You Accountable
Truth be told, sometimes you just need a little push from someone other than yourself. That’s why it’s so important not to try to go this thing alone. And just like you’re struggling, someone else may be too and in that case you can help each other. Just keep in mind there are some key things to consider when looking for the perfect accountability partner. If you take the step to reach out for help I guarantee someone will be waiting and willing to give you the push and support you need.
Understand How You Got Here To Lesson The Chance Of It Happening Again
Setbacks are a part of the process. There’s simply no getting around it. This is not the first and it won’t be the last time you find yourself falling off the weight loss wagon. You will find it helpful to identify exactly how you got to this place so that in the future when the same set of circumstances show up you will recognize them and be prepared with your plan B. I don’t know about you but I’m tired of “starting over”. If you don’t stop you won’t have to restart. If it is at all possible, don’t let yourself completely fall away. Do something to keep moving forward even if it’s something small. At least you’re still traveling in the right direction. Remember, a body in motion stays in motion.
Decide How You Will Recover
Since you already know setbacks are inevitable, what is going to be your recovery plan? Will you issue yourself a challenge to get back on track? Will you join a group or sign up for a class that will put the spark back into your step? How will you pick yourself up and dust yourself off? This is an important step to put in place because once you know how and what you’re going to do, you won’t have to expend that energy trying to figure it out on the other end…you will already know what it is you need to do and what it is you are going to do to get yourself back on track.
Bank Some Celebrations Towards Continued Progress
Please, please, please keep in mind that when you fall off the weight loss wagon or when things don’t go exactly as planned that it is not the end of the road. Not even close. We tend to focus on all that we are NOT doing and totally negate all that has been done. Give yourself credit for everything and I mean everything. If you passed the vending machine without making your daily stop…give yourself credit. If you went walking for lunch instead of sitting at your desk…give yourself credit. If you got out of bed the first time the alarm went off…then give yourself credit. Each time you make a deposit into your “celebration bank”, that’s a step you are making towards your goal…and that’s definitely something to celebrate!
