I am the type of person who needs structure. When you take me away from my daily routine I feel like a fish out to water. Not to mention the fact that once I’m off track it’s hard for me to back on. I am an “all or nothing” person. I’m either all in or all out. So far out that it’s hard to find me because I’m onto my next big thing.
Because I know this about myself I’ve been in planning mode this week. Why? So glad you asked!
As a Meeting Planner (by day), occasionally my job calls for me to travel. As luck would have it this is one of those times when I have to go out of town for a few days to conduct hotel site visits for an event next year. Some may think this is fun and cool. I think it’s an interruption to my daily routine. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job, but I also like the safety net of my routine days to keep me on track.
And so, as I’ve already mentioned, I have a plan. Would you like to hear it? Great! Here it is:
- Continue with my daily walks. I am taking my workout clothes and sneakers and music with me so I can stick to my normal walking schedule while away each day.
- No smoothies for the next few days. Instead I will focus on healthy, clean eating. No fried foods, no junk food, no fast foods. I will eat salad and request for my food to be prepared in the healthiest way. I will also drink water out of the wazoo.
- Upon my return home I will launch into the third phase of my wellness project. I will resume drinking smoothies for breakfast and eat clean for lunch and dinner.
There was a time this unscheduled trip would have set me back to square one after falling off track and having to scramble to get back on. But what I am learning is that a bend in the road doesn’t have to be the end of the road. I’m learning to adapt to the situation at hand, plan to do the best I can do and execute on the plan!
