With the new year fast approaching everyone (including myself) is gearing up to get in shape. That means there is going to be a made dash for the gym. Now if there is one thing I hate, it’s feeling like I’m working out on top of other people. I will go out of my way to avoid going to the gym during peak times because I don’t like the crowds. Unfortunately, over the next few months I’m anticipating a packed house and as Hall and Oaks would say, “I can’t go for that, no o o, no can do”.
So, that means I need a plan B and I’m proud to say I have one. I will be canceling my membership with Planet Fitness tomorrow, because that little $10 a month will be better severed in my pocket. Okay!?
Next I will be putting together a weekly workout routine to include: flexibility and balance, cardio and strength training. I have everything I need to pull this off at home and I’m actually pretty excited about it.
My initial plan is to ease into my daily workouts with stretches in the morning and in the evenings. My body is creaky and tight, so I’m going to limber up with daily stretching.
As for my cardio, I was about to purchase Leslie Sansome’s “Walk Away The Pounds” DVD and then I remembered there was this thing called YouTube, which has every video known to man. I googled it and found a dozen or more video’s of Walk Away the Pounds, which will serve me well. Of course I also have my Zumba videos, and there’s always the option of putting on my playlist and dropping it like it’s hot
I’m uber excited about my options for strength training. I have my resistance bands, my dumbbells (3lbs. 5lbs. and 8lbs.) and my balance ball. These things combined with my Big Book of Exercises, which has over 400 pages of strength training exercises that I can pick and choose from to design my weekly strength training routines.
I will also be adding Yoga to the mix. Anything to help my back, which I’m pretty certain between strengthening my core, being consistent with stretching daily and introducing yoga to the mix, I should be pain free in no time. At least that is my prayer.
Here’s the wonderful thing about my plan. I can do everything from the comforts of my own home. I don’t have to try to figure out the best time to hit the gym. I don’t have to worry about my favorite machine being taken. I don’t have to concern myself with who’s looking at me and judging me. I can get the same results from working out at home and that my friends is a win win situation.
