Stinking thinking can be a big hindrance to weight loss success. I know when I find myself “thinking fat”, as I like to call it, that’s when my progress stalls and or gets derailed. I’m committed to renewing my mind daily by extinguishing the following ways of thinking as it relates to my journey.
The quick fix mentality – no more wishing for a magic pill, potion or formula. I am embracing the fact that I’m going to take it off the same way I put it on…slowly and over time.
All or nothing thinking – in other words…perfectionism. Perfect is the enemy of good. There will be days that I don’t get it right. There will be days that I’m not “perfect”. When those days happen, I am going to accept them for what they are…just another day of the journey…and keep it moving.
Good food bad food – I’m gonna stop demonizing food, and start focusing on making better choices. I did not get here by eating “a” slice of cake. I got here by making it a lifestyle of eating cake (and other high calorie foods). Cake is not bad. Buffalo wings are not bad. Chips are not bad. As long as these things are eaten in moderation, they’re not “bad”. The key is to have them occasionally and not as my daily diet.
Habitual Eating – eating something because that’s what I habitually reach for. This has been the case with me when it comes to fast foods. The good news here is that my taste buds have changed and fast food is no longer satisfying to me. Now that’s a victory!
These are just a few of the eating mindsets I have fallen victim to and am now committed to changing. I realize the changes will not happen overnight, but recognizing these as areas of weakness is the first step.
