Yipee, I accomplished my goal and he thinks I’m cuuuuuuuute! |
Yes I did! I ran around the whole track (upper portion) at St. Joseph’s University without stopping. I feel so good about my accomplishment. I’ve had this in mind to do since the beginning of August but just hadn’t made the time to do it. I must admit, knowing that I had to have something to blog about on day two was motivation for getting out of bed and getting to the track. (I think this 365 Day Challenge is going to be the best thing I could do for myself).
It was good running into “literally” my friend Deneen, who was getting it in also. (Girl you are looking good! Keep up the good work!)
I’ve been “training” for this at the gym by doing walk/run intervals. I started off running for a minute and walking for 90 seconds, and I’ve recently worked my way up to running for 3 minutes and walking for two. Small steps? Sure. But nevertheless, they are my accomplishments and I am proud of myself! You see up until this year, I didn’t run for a thing! Not one blessed thing!
So now the training continues. Ultimately I want to be able to run my next 5K race instead of walking. I completed my first 5K race in May. I ran a smidge, but for the most part I walked. I finished slightly under an hour (56.39). I participate in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” run/walk race last weekend and did slightly better at (54:44)…would have done a lot better, but got a slow start with the congested walk area at the beginning of the race.
I’m amazed at what my body can do. I’m getting stronger and faster. Now I have to work on my breathing. Lord have mercy, it felt like my lungs were going to explode. I guess that comes with the territory, but I’m hoping it will get better over time.
And now for the icing on the cake! After my walk/run, I had some errands to do with my Mom. As I was dropping her off at home, a Paratransit vehicle was sitting outside of the building. The driver spoke and I spoke back with a “Hi, how are you?” His response… “Not as fine as you”… All I could do was smile and think about when Rudolph finds out that Clarice thinks he is cute. Rudolph says, “she thinks I’m cuuuuuuute!”, and goes flying into the air. That’s me today, flying high because I did what I set out to do, and he thinks I’m cuuuuuuuuute…:-)
Much Love
