When it comes to working on losing weight, why do we try to fit a square peg into a round hole? Rather than searching for the “right” program or plan, why don’t we put that energy into creating our own? Think about it, with all of the reading, researching and testing of the various plans and programs we’ve done I think it’s safe to say we have a pretty good idea of what our secret sauce is.
The weight loss process is not a one size fits all. Or maybe it is. Sure we can all pick the same plan to follow and we’d all probably lose weight because losing weight in and of itself is “easy” to do. We condition ourselves to follow a set of rules that say eat this, don’t eat that, exercise this way and so on and so on. The weight will certainly come off but the problem is that for many of us it doesn’t stay off. Why? Well because following a program that doesn’t fit who we are and how we live our lives from day to day is not sustainable for the long haul.
Sure you can pull it off for six months, maybe even a year, but what happens in the days and months that follow? What happens when you are no longer following the plan or are on the program? The weight piles right back on and you’re back at square one.
Consider this. Why not design your own plan that centers around your needs rather than simply weight loss. Our weight is a symptom of other issues in our lives, which if we were to get them under control our weight “problem” would more than likely disappear.
In creating your own plan, consider things such as:
- What are your likes and dislikes as they pertain to food and exercise/movement?
- What is your peak time? When are you most energetic?
- What time of day do you find you need a boost?
- What do you need more of in your life? Design your plan to include those things.
- What do you need least in your life? Design your plan to eliminate those things.
- Do you enjoy cooking or is convenience more your speed?
You see when you start to answer these questions you’ll begin to see the patterns of your current lifestyle and how you can change those patterns to create a healthier existence for yourself. At that point your journey will be less about weight loss, more about living your best life and doing the things that give you life and weight loss will be the by-product of your new and healthy lifestyle.

When it comes to losing weight or maintaining your current weight, there are no forbidden foods. Anything can be consumed in moderation. You simply need to make sure that you don’t over consume calories. There are a few programs out there that can show you exactly how to do that.

Hi William! Thanks for stopping by. With so much information out there sometimes it’s hard to stay mindful of the fact that moderation not deprivation is the simple key to both losing and maintaining. I appreciate the reminder ☺️
