Well, here we are just two months away from the end of 2015. It seems like I blinked my eyes and the year is over. Yet I’m no closer to reaching my weight loss goal than I was at the start of the year, which brings me to this question: How badly do you want it Stacey? This is a question I have to keep before me because my answer to the question will give me the momentum I need to keep pressing.
Moving forward on my journey I realize I have to put more weight (pun intended) on changing my habits rather than solely focusing on “losing weight”. This is a must for me because I am such a creature of habit. When my circumstances are less than perfect, which is more often than not, it’s been too easy for me to revert back to my default behaviors/habits. Overwhelming work schedule, being tired, not feeling like it, not having the time, etc. etc., have all been triggers for me to blow off my workout or reach for a less healthy food option.
I recognize more than ever before that my reasons for wanting to lose weight have to remain before me at all times. My why’s have to be so important to me that they carry enough “weight” to make me want to put forth the effort required in order for me to experience the very things I say I want.
In other words, when I say I want to lose weight because I want to be taken off my high blood pressure medicine, then that is the reason I connect to when it’s time to get out of bed at 5:30 in the morning to hit the gym.
When I say I want to lose weight because I want my back and knees to stop hurting, then that is the reason I connect to when I make the choice to eat an apple instead of a piece of chocolate cake.
Really wanting to experience the things on my list of “why’s” creates and sustains my momentum. When my goals are rooted in the things that really matter to me, it becomes easier to do what I say I want to do, long after the mood for doing so wears off.
