I just walked in the house from working out. I’m happy to be able to give that report because I tell you it almost didn’t happen. Normally, I like to get my walking done in the mornings before work so that I’m not tempted to put it off or allow other things to keep me from getting it done altogether. Well, as much as I’d like for that to be a habit, that’s something I’m still working on. My bed really does have attachment issues.
Anywho, I decided that I would take my workout gear with me and hit the gym immediately after work before going home. Well, that didn’t happen either. It was so hot and I was so bothered, I just wanted to come home and collapse. As I drove home talking to my friend Donna on the phone, I mentioned that I needed to go walking before the night was over, but at that point I wanted to wait until the sun went down or at least wasn’t so intense. She asked what time I was going. I told her between 7:30/8:00. She then said she would go with me. Okay, great!
While eating my dinner I watched the news specifically to catch the weather. Oh boy, wouldn’t you know it, they were forecasting a severe storm to blow in exactly around the time I wanted to walk. I was hoping that Donna and I could hook up before the storm rolled in. In the meantime I decided to catch a cat nap before hitting the payment. Upon waking, I had a strong urge to get going now as opposed to later. If I didn’t get moving while I had the motivation, it was a strong possibility that I’d end up putting it off until tomorrow.
I really did not want to burden myself with the mental drain of stressing over the fact that I did not do what I had committed myself to doing. At that point I got up, put my gear on, called Donna and told her I was heading out, let her know the route I’d be walking and she met me just as I was three quarters of a mile away from finishing my walk.
I hopped in her car and we then drove to the gym, where I completed a mile and a half more for a total of 3.19 miles. Not bad for someone who almost decided to skip it all together. Here are the three things I am most proud of:
- I didn’t renege on my commitment to MYSELF to get it done
- I didn’t let the threat of rain, my tiredness, or the fact that I was super sleepy hold me back
- I got moving while the motivation to do so was there, even though it meant having to set out initially without my Donna I’m so glad she understood AND persevered as well…Kudos to you Donna!
Welp the rain did come and with vengeance I might add. We watched as it got dark and blew up while we were getting our walk on, safe, sound and sheltered. Not only do I feel good for persevering, but I don’t have to worry about feeling guilty for not doing it, AND I walked further and longer than I originally set out to do. Go Stacey!! Go Donna!!

Great way to push through. I am so with you about
the morning. It seems that something seems to come
up in the evening. My plan is to try and shift to the
morning because less gets in the way (not counting
me of course).
Able to get in 5.08 this afternoon but the heat made it
tough.
Like you I am also eating out of my kitchen.

I’m still working on being consistent with morning workouts…it’s sooo hard to get out of bed. But if we could master this habit, it would relieve us of so much mental pressure, you know? Whoot Whoot on 5.08 miles! Proud of Ethel
