Last Thursday I watched the new weight loss program, “My Diet Is Better Than Yours”. I hadn’t planned on watching it but the TV was on and I got sucked in. I have to say, it wasn’t as bad as I thought is was going to be. The show follows the journey of five contestants who selected a diet plan that they think would be the best fit for them.
The creators of each of the plans works with the contestants to help them lose the most weight and a chance to win $50,000 at the final weigh in, which is weeks away. They will also be featured in People’s Magazine along with the professional who helped them and in order to qualify for all of this they will need to complete a half marathon.
I actually liked the show, however in my opinion some of the professionals were a little strange, but hey who am I to judge. Here are the diet plans the contestants are following:
The Super Food Swap Diet – this diet focuses on swapping super processed foods for super foods, which are healthy foods that super charge your body with energy and nutrients.
The Wild Diet – works for people who love food and luscious indulgent things such as chocolate, bacon and steak, none of which they’ll have to give up.
The Wellness Smackdown Diet – is a holistic approach to weight loss and health and combines a herbalist and anti-inflammatory vegan diet to give you back your energy vitality and strength.
The No Diet Plan – its mantra is that food is just a habit, not the root cause of our problem and therefore focuses on behavior to create a new mindset.
The cLean Momma Plan – simplifies healthy living for busy people with “taskercise”, which combines exercise with your everyday tasks.
Honestly I like the core components of all of the plans and certainly walked away with tips to incorporate into my own journey, such as:
- If it goes bad, then it’s good for you (specifically fruits and veggies)
- Treats (cake, cookies, etc.) need to be a part of our life because food is a celebration and food is fun. Eating sweets every once in a while OUTSIDE of the home is acceptable. Enjoy it without bringing it home where you run the risk of overdoing it.
- Restricting yourself is dangerous because it will lead to binge eating. (I’m a witness)
- Your shopping cart should look like the plate you are trying to eat, so be sure to do a cart check before checking out: 50% produce 25% grainy foods and 25% protein!
- In order to lose fat you need to eat fat. Good fats absorb nutrients. When you restrict fat too much, you’re robbing yourself of your fat burning hormones.
- Complete transformation involves your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self. It’s not about a diet, it’s about YOU!
- When you don’t deal with your habits, you’ll continue to fail. If not with food, with alcohol, with sex, with shopping…you name the addiction.
- Food placement – you’re twice as likely to eat foods that are in your direct eye line. Therefore store the “grab and go” foods in the front of the refrigerator and make them easy to grab by putting them in a bowl vs. baggies.
- Colors such as red, yellow and orange stimulate appetite. Blue is calming and suppresses appetite. (Although this sounded a little hooky to me, I may just have to try eating on blue plates
- Chicken broth made from bones heals from the inside out and improves skin and reduces wrinkles. (This was a big aha for me).
All in all I thought the show was a great motivator. It gave sound information and shared doable tips. It also showed that the process of losing weight is not a one size fits all type of deal, and that part I really liked. I think I’ll be watching it again to get more tips to help me on my journey.
In the meantime I will be sharing my own tips on how to stay focused on your weight loss journey on Tuesday, January 19tha at 7:00 pm (EST). I will be hosting a webinar, The Power of ONE For Weight Loss Success. I will be sharing:
1) the reasons why we struggle to maintain our momentum
2) how we can stay motivated for the long haul, esp. if you have over 100 lbs. to lose and
3) how to create small goals that will lead to big results.
It’s free and you can enjoy it from the comforts of your home. You can register here. Hope to see you there!

It is good. I thought is was going to be hoaky, but the tips were pretty good and it doesn’t promote that quick fix mentality. Definitely check it out.
