All of us at one time or another may find ourselves stuck in a rut. The dailiness of life keeps us running on the proverbial hamster wheel and we can’t get off. There are things we want to do, dreams we want to live out, goals we want to accomplish. Yet, for some reason, we can’t seem to get ourselves unstuck. One of the main culprits of this vicious cycle is our own limiting beliefs.
A limiting belief is something you believe to be true about yourself (I’m too fat), others (no one is interested in what I have to say), or the world (the system is out to get me) that limits you in some way. Simply put, limiting beliefs hold you back and keep you stuck!
Beliefs are powerful! Yet many of us don’t know that we have some that stop us from moving forward.
Here are 5 limiting beliefs that are standing in your way:
“I’m Too Fat”
Us curvy girls tend to allow our weight to hold us back. I say no more! It’s time to lose the wait on living our lives to the fullest! Here’s the thing. Fat is what you have on your body just like hair, fingernails, and skin. Fat is not who you are! You are smart, talented, skilled, funny, beautiful and the list goes on. No more allowing your weight to hold you back. Lose the wait now (meaning no more excuses) and do something about it! But understand this, the only reason the size of your body is holding you back is that you believe it to be a hindrance and you can change that belief. Now hear me loud and clear on this next point. I am not encouraging you to stay in an unhealthy body but rather to practice and focus on obtaining better health, overall wellness and a vibrancy for life NOW.
“I Don’t Know Where To Start”
Check this out, and I want you to really think about it. If there is no clear place to start, then there is no wrong place to start! Start where you start! Stop over thinking things. This limiting belief paralyzes you and keeps you from taking action. Allow me to help you. Start with the next right thing for you and keep moving from there!
“What If I Fail?”
And what if you win? Here’s the thing, you won’t know either way unless you move. Can I be frank? I am so tired of folk being fearful. 99.9% of what you fear never even happens! (I’m being dramatic with the percentage to make a point). I know this is cliche, but it’s true. Fear is simply False Evidence Appearing Real. Change your perspective. Instead of believing you’ll fail, embrace the fact that you will learn all kinds of wonderful things if you just get moving!
“I’m Just Not Motivated”
Motivation is a tricky thing. Many of us believe it’s something we have to get in order to take action. Actually, motivation follows action, and not the other way around. The truth of the matter is that motivation is something you create. And you have to create it for yourself every day! Click here for some ideas on how to create motivation.
“I Don’t Know What To Do”
Sure you do! But because of the limiting beliefs listed above (and many more), you now believe that you don’t know what to do. You know exactly what to do! You know that if you want to write a book for example, you need to start writing. You know that if you want to lose weight, you need to change your diet and add more movement to your life. The point here is to stop complicating stuff. To accomplish the things you KNOW you want to do doesn’t take brain surgery. But it does take ACTION!
I have 3 suggestions to help you overcome your limiting beliefs.
Practice positive self-talk. We’re all talking to ourselves anyway. We may as well find something nice to say, right? Affirm yourself with “I can” statements. In fact, make a list of all of the things you can do and read that list daily to build up your belief system. Here’s one to start with. “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Work with a mentor or life coach or someone who believes in you. Often times it takes the belief of others to help us to believe in ourselves. Whose doing something you’d like to do? Ask them if you can shadow them or if they’d mentor you. Invest in your personal growth and hire a life coach. You can schedule a free call with me, and I’d be delighted to give you some guidance. The point here is to reach out for help!
Do some self-reflection. As I mentioned in the beginning, the dailiness of life keeps us on that proverbial hamster’s wheel and we don’t take time out to evaluate our lives. I strongly encourage you to download a free copy of my Lose The Wait Planner. It’s designed to help you to get clarity and reconnect to that part of you that’s been buried alive.
The bottom line is that if you want to move forward on your goals, dreams, and aspirations you must change your limiting beliefs. If you find that you are stuck and you don’t know what to do, reach out for help and allow others to believe in you until you can believe in yourself!
