I wish there was a magic pill I could take or a button I could push to help me to remain consistent on my journey. I wish this journey was a straight path to the finish line, but unfortunately it is not. So I got to thinking, what are some things I could do or things I could put in place that would help me to remain consistent? I came up with the following four ideas to get me on my way:
Do It Even If You Don’t Feel Like
Every week of my life, five out of the seven days I’m given…I do something I never feel like doing and that is…go to work. It’s not something I ponder or spend time overthinking. It’s something I do because my lively hood depends on it. I’m relating that same way of thinking to my health. Regardless of whether I feel like it or not, I gotta do what I gotta do!
Focus On And Take Responsibility For The Process Not the Potential Results
As long as I do the work the results will happen. My focus is not on the number on the scale or a smaller dress size. My focus is on doing the things that will get me there. This makes it easier to take action because all I have to do is take responsibility for showing up and doing the work.
Let Go Of Old Self Images
The key here is learning to envision and embrace the new, healthy, athletic in control me, who is active and loving it. I’m letting go of the old self destructive, unhealthy me, which no longer supports my vision or my goals.
Place Reminders Around Your Environment
Until it becomes second nature to me, I am using post-its, screen savers, pictures on my refrigerator and bathroom mirror, notes on the dashboard of my car, text messages to myself, reminders set on my phone, email to my future self, vision board, etc. to remind myself how wonderful I am. How in control I am and to remind myself that I’ve got this!
