It’s the first day of the new year. Whoot! Whoot! I’m excited to say I got my day started on the right foot and I’m able to report my first accomplishment of the new year. But before I do that I need to take a moment to pat myself on the back for a couple of things.
Yesterday I met my friend Donna at the gym and got in a 1 mile walk and then did some circuit training for 30 minutes. Here I am being silly. I always make time for a photo op
I also completed my second day of the Green Smoothie Cleanse. I really can’t believe how easy I am finding it to be. I noticed that my energy was really good yesterday. I didn’t feel sluggish or lethargic throughout the day. As long as I keep my snacks close by and drink my smoothie, I’m good. I’m careful not to let myself get hungry, because I’m sure that would be the kiss of death for me.
I wasn’t planning on getting on the scale until after the 10 days, but I have to confess. I stepped on it this morning and I’m down 1.2 lbs. That was all the incentive I needed to keep going.
I’ll talk more about the cleanse and what my plans are for when I’m done as the days go on, but the key thing I want to stress here is that I am well aware of the need to have a plan well in place so that I don’t go back to eating badly. I will say this…after drinking smoothies for 10 days straight I’m dreaming of the treat of a nice salad on my 11th day.
Okay, so now for today. Last month I signed up for the “Happy New Year, Happy New You” virtual 5K race over on Fit Fab and Lean. Because of the problems I’ve been having with my back, knee and heels, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it…but I did! Bamm!
My pace was slower than normal so when the treadmill reached an hour it went into a 5 minute cool down mode and then shut off…right at 3 miles! Uggg! I was trying so hard to get it in before the machine cut off. I almost started crying but my friend Donna gave me a pep talk, and I restarted the machine and walked for 3 more minutes to get in the full 5K, which is 3.10 miles.
When it was all said and done, I was pooped, but I felt accomplished. All I wanted to do at that point was to crawl to my car so I could get home to my bed. But when you have such “good” friends like Donna, they don’t let you do that. Oh no, they suggest doing some planks and crunches. After giving her the side eye and hopping my way over to the mates, we did 20 – 30 seconds of planks and side planks (1 set each), and then did some weighted crunches using the balance ball.
Now I ain’t gonna lie, my body feels like it’s been hit by a mack truck, but I still feel great! I feel great because it’s done. I feel great because I started the year doing something good for my body. It feels great because I’m gonna be getting another bling medal in the mail. And I feel great because I’m putting action behind what I say I want…and that feels great!
Happy New Year!!!!
