I like millions of others stepped on the scale this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. Since starting the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse just four days ago, I must say that I am pleased with the results. When I started, I weighed in at 319.4. As of yesterday I was 318.2 and this morning I was 314.4! That’s a weight lose of 5lb! In disbelief I stepped off and stepped back on a couple of times because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. But each time the number was the same.
Now let me say this, although I am happy about my “5lb. weight loss”, I am also realistic about the process I am currently taking to lose some pounds. It’s quite simple. When you are feeding your body mostly liquids throughout the day for several days on end, the body naturally responses with a drop in weight. I’m clear on the fact that when I start eating whole foods again, I’m likely to see the scale move in the other direction, which is why I am prepared with a plan for easing myself back into eating…sensibly and of course healthy so as not to undo what has been done.
The key for me is to NOT to go back to my old ways! I’m really being mindful of how my body and psyche are responding and I’m hoping these 10 days will:
Help me to identify what true (physical) hunger is. There have been a few times over the course of these last few days that I thought to myself, “wait a minute I should be eating something”. Then I realize that I’m not hungry at all! I was just used to stuffing my mouth with something to eat, or stuffing my emotions down until the next emotional wave came along to trigger that “let me eat something” response again.
Help me to acquire new tastes. I’m hoping that my taste buds will be programmed to crave and enjoy the healthy stuff. I will say this, I’m totally enjoying my carrots, cucumber, almonds, boiled eggs, and apples. These are the things I eat as a snack when I’m hungry, and they taste delish AND I am completely satisfied. Can I just tell you that I am counting down the days for when I will eat a SALAD! That’s right, I said a salad.
Help me to delay gratification. Please, please don’t get it twisted. I have been craving some buffalo wings like a mug these last two days. But one I drink my smoothie and eat my snacks and realize I’m NOT hungry, then I think to myself, what’s the point?
Help me to appreciate how eating healthy makes me feel. I can honestly say that I can get used to not having that bloated, full feeling. I don’t feel sluggish or lethargic after eating my snacks or drinking my smoothie. I actually have energy and I love it!
So here on this National Weigh In Day, 2015…I am not moaning or groaning because I know that the number on the scale is temporary because I have decided to change it through eating healthy and moving my body on a regular and consistent basis!
