So, Valentines Day is just around the corner. Personally I don’t celebrate it, but for those who do, I have a few thoughts about celebrating it in a way that doesn’t sabotage your weight loss journey.
Dine Out With A Strategy – Yesterday I shared 10 ways to keep the calories and the guilt down. Check it out.
Focus On Friendship, Fellowship, Not Food – Why is it when we get together with friends it’s always centered around eating? Why not make the focus be on simply getting together to enjoy each other’s company? Instead of food-centered events consider these ideas.
- Take in a movie
- Go to a museum
- Go for a walk together
- Hang out in the bookstore
- Sign up for a class together
- Get together for a game night
These are all fun gathering ideas for two or a group of people. Although in some cases food may be involved it is not the focus. The point here is to make laughter, catching up and having fun the focus of your gathering, not food!
Shower Yourself With Acts of Kindness That Don’t Involve Food – Not everyone has someone special to share the day with and that’s okay. Use the day to show yourself some love. Instead of indulging in a gallon of ice cream and throwing yourself a pity party, try one of these ideas instead:
- Treat yourself to a spa day: massage, mani-pedi and if you really want to go for it, get your hair done.
- Do something that’s been long overdue…curl up with a good book or watch a funny movie.
- Buy yourself some flowers or something you’ve had your eyes on for a while.
- Call the friends you haven’t talked to in a while to say hello and let them know you love them. This will make both your day and theirs.
- Make yourself an awesome yet healthy dinner. Your body will appreciate the care you’re giving it.
- One of the best ways to show yourself some love…Workout!
- Put on your favorite playlist and dance around the house like nobodies watching (my personal fav).
The ideas are endless. Again the point here is not to let one day sabotage you physically, mentally or emotionally. Plan right now, whether alone, with friends or significant other, to love yourself to health!
