Earlier this summer, I found myself feeling very discouraged. I was working my butt off exercising and pushing my body to do things it just wasn’t used to doing. Week in and week out I would step on the scale and that stupid thing did not budge. There was a time in my life when I would have thrown up my hands and given up. But because I could see that my clothes were getting loser and I was feeling better, I knew something was happening with my body, and it just wasn’t being reflected on the scale. So, I decided to continue to push. I called my friend Tee, who had lost over 100 lbs. I needed to get her advice on how to get past this hurdle.
She told me that I had to get into the habit of writing EVERYTHING down. Even if I just took a taste, to write it in my food journal. That concept wasn’t new to me, but the truth is, I wasn’t doing it.
Then she shared with me something her sister had told her when she started on her journey. She said, “If you really want this, you have to stop lying to yourself. Stop doing this at 50% effort and begin to put in 100% effort”. That for me was an Aha Moment.
That weekend, I went out and got a notebook to track what I ate, and I began to put my all into it. I watched what I ate, wrote it all down, continued working out, and committed to the process 100%. For weeks, and I do mean weeks, I had been trying to lose 4 lbs to reach a milestone goal of getting out of the 300’s. When I stepped on the scale the following week, I had finally crossed over the threshold back into the 200’s and I know that tracking what I ate made the difference. Since then, I’m sad to say that I have not been consistent with my tracking, but starting today, ain’t no more half stepping. I am making the commitment to put in 100% effort, and to start tracking what I eat, and to continue to do so.
Much Love
