If you’re like me your “to-do” list is probably growing longer with each passing day. It may seem as though it will never end with things to do for work, family, church/ministry, etc. When I think about my own “to do” list, I’m reminded of the plaque I have hanging in my office, which reads:
“God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind, I will live forever”.
When you look at your list, where are YOU on it? If YOU actually made it onto the list, I would venture to guess that you’re at the bottom.
The way we prioritize our lives affects our health and fitness goals and the time we choose to spend on them. That’s right, it’s a choice and the things we choose to spend the most time and effort on speaks volumes to where our priorities lie.
Here’s the thing, taking care of ourselves first is not selfish. In fact it is a must if we are to continue to care for and tend to the other things and people in our lives.
Consider this, getting regular maintenance and oil changes on our cars helps them to run smoother longer. The same holds true for us. Making our health and fitness and self care a priority affords us the ability to put our best foot forward and allows us to continue to care for all those who rely so heavily on us to get things done.
What you do vs. what you say you want to do is proof in the pudding as to whether or not you are working on your priorities. Disciplining your priorities means that:
- You have to WANT it!!!
- You understand that your health and fitness goals are all about YOU!
- You have to adopt a healthy mindset.
- You have to challenge yourself to do what you think you can’t.
- You have to have a plan and work it.
- You have to take baby steps – EVERYDAY!!!
- You have to find what works for you.
- You have to love yourself NOW!!!
- You have to adopt an “It’s Not An Option” attitude.
Learning to prioritize your own needs is definitely a process. It’s going to take time but you can do it!!

LOL!! I can totally relate just finished writing a post about the very same thing on my blog. I am going to take action on scheduling time for me and get in the tub. I love warm baths with scented candles and reading in bed. So that’s what I am off to do. Thanks for the reinforcement.

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one trying to get some balance in my life. Reading in bed is one of my favorite things to do also, so I think I’m going to follow suit Thanks for stopping by!
