It never fails. Just when you commit to make a positive change in your life there is always something lurking behind the curtain to knock you off course. Yesterday, that something was my car.
One of my goals for this month was to exercise every day, no matter what! With that being the case, my schedule was all set for this week. My workout for the day was going to be teaching my Zumba class. Teaching Zumba is what I do every Thursday unless I know ahead of time that I won’t be able to teach. I didn’t go to the gym yesterday morning, or during lunch, which would have been my plan B, because in my mind and in my schedule, my plan was set. That is until my lovely car decided it didn’t want to start.
Fortunately for me I have a sweetie who is mechanically inclined. The good news is that he fixed my car. He replaced the starter, which died and saved me $360…very happy about that. The not so good news is that I didn’t make it to Zumba or the gym because I was co-mechanic (my job was to pass him the tools By the time we were finished and I saw him off, it was 10:00 pm., it was dark, and we were BOTH exhausted. For a split second I considered going to the gym, which is open 24 hours to do a little some ’em some ’em, but Lord knows I had NOTHING left in me. So I opted to shower and go to bed. I didn’t even eat dinner, which I know was not a smart move, but that’s just how tired I was.
The moral of the story
Sometimes you have to allow for some flexibility. Sure I had my plans and really, really wanted to stick to my commitment. But as life would have it, it just wasn’t in the plans yesterday. Physically, my decision was the best one to make. I needed to allow my body to recover, and I feel much better for my obedience in that area today. Mentally, I had to minister to myself and convince myself that it was okay to miss a day. One day wasn’t going to make or break my success. Now several one days in a row could be a problem, but I’m not going to let that happen.
Although I’m a little disappointed about missing a day in my 31 day commitment, I am not going to let it put me in a defeated frame of mind. No sir. I am going to pick myself up by the sneaker straps and get my booty movin today. One monkey don’t stop no show and one day won’t cause a delay in me reaching my goal!

Great article, and a wonderful reminder! No one can control every part of his or her life, no matter how hard it’s tried. The key is recognizing what has to be done, and taking steps to not just move forward, but also toward getting back on track. Even business owners recognize being sidetracked “a tad”, but it’s how we respond to the “tad” that counts. Way to go!

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for stopping by. You are so right, it’s how we respond to life’s set backs that make the real difference in our lives. From weight loss to business, many times it’s what we do next that lets us know what we’re made of. Great insight…thanks so much for sharing.

You are so right. Planning is so important…. but having a ‘plan b’ can be your saving grace. =)

Hi Christy! Thanks for stopping by. One of the things I always say is that the best plan to have is plan B. Just wish I had followed my own advise But you live and you learn. I’m going to plan better the next time and try my best not to be in that position again.
