A couple of years ago, Slim Fast had a commercial that talked about “Getting To Your Thin”. I like that concept because the whole weight loss journey is an individual thing. The motivation for each person is different. As my friend Janine and I were discussing our frustrations with the scale this morning, I got to thinking about “my thin” in terms of what it IS and is NOT. Here is my list:
- My thin is NOT a number on the scale. I’ve shared over and over about my frustration with the scale, and although it is the most obvious tool for measuring weight loss, I’m glad it’s not only one (Thank God!). As I work harder and harder and fail to see the results on the scale, I am determined not be defined by the number on it!
-
My thin IS feeling good about myself and the things I am able to do. As a result of living a more active lifestyle, I’m feeling great! I have more energy, my confidence is starting to build, and I have a new zeal for life. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
-
My thin IS about enjoying the process of getting to a healthier and thinner version of myself. My thin is more about the process of setting goals and accomplishing them, the process of challenging myself, and the process of overcoming obstacles and the process of recovering quickly from setbacks. Not only am I “winning” the battle of the bulge, but the strategies I’m using to do so are transferable to other areas of my life, which makes the whole process a win-win situation.
-
My thin IS NOT a particular dress size, although as I go down in numbers it feels good to put on a smaller size, but it really isn’t about the number on the tag. My thin is more about looking better and feeling good in my own skin.
-
My thin IS about doing things I NEVER thought I would or could do.
-
My thin IS about inspiring, encouraging and motivating others to take control of their situation and turn it around for themselves.
-
My thin IS NOT about being a certain size in order to be accepted by others. Here’s the thing, if I never lost another other pound, there are 2 things I know for sure: God loves me just the way I am, and I have good friends and family who love me whether I am a size 2 or 22.
-
My thin IS about making a commitment to myself to FINALLY finish what I started.
-
My thin IS about looking in the mirror and loving what I see, not for the size of the image staring back at me, but for the strength, courage, and determination to get control of that which had taken control of me.
-
My thin is NOT about just looking good on the outside, but feeling good both inside and out.
