Last Monday I talked about the power of the calendar and how motivational it is for me to use it in mapping out my goals, by breaking them down into bite sized pieces, in order to reach my “big picture” goal. Well today I’m happy to share that as a result of looking at my goal realistically, and breaking it down in that manner, I have been successful in reaching and passing my weekly goal of losing 1.67lbs.
The cool thing about accomplishing the goal is that the only way I was able to do it was by putting some habits in place. I love this quote:
“Change might not be fast and it isn’t always easy. But with time and effort, almost any habit can be reshaped.” – Charles Duhigg, The Power of Habit:Why We Do What We Do In Life and Business
The other morning while I was taking my walk it occurred to me that this whole weight loss journey is really about doing an about face. The bottom line is that I must do the exact opposite of everything I’ve been doing if I want to be successful. I also love this quote:
“If you continue to dig the same hole in the same place in your life, eventually you will be standing in a grave.” – Shannon L. Alder
I have to do an about face from living a sedentary and inactive lifestlye and get out there and start moving my body…consistently…in order to see a change…and in order to ESTABLISH A NEW HABIT!
I have to do an about face from eating a lot of junk food and fried food and start making healthier choices…consistently…in order to see a change…and in order to ESTABLISH A NEW HABIT!
I shared yesterday my winning formula for success. These are now the things, which I am working on making a habit and they are paying off! My weekly weight loss goal is 1.67 pounds based on how the calendar breaks down in being able to accomplish my “big picture” goal of 40lbs. by years end. So far, I have surpassed my initial weekly goal by losing 2lbs!
One of the things that has helped me to establish these new habits is to do so incrementally. Success on this journey doesn’t come overnight nor do all the changes that need to take place. For instant, eating from my own kitchen is allowing me to “break the habit” of eating fast food and junk food. Because I don’t bring that stuff into the house, and because my new habit is to eat from my own kitchen…it’s starting to settle in that this is a good thing to do and my eating automatically gets better. Better not perfect. My next incremental change as it relates to my eating will be to make even better food choices. That will come in time as I continue to work on ESTABLISHING NEW HABITS.
So you see, as I remain steadfast in putting off the bad habits that have been a part of my life for many, many years and putting on the new habits I want to make a part of my life, I will get stronger, and I will get better and I will get closer and closer to my goal.
